So I been sticking to a very strict diet along with both weight lifting and cardio excersises (both HIT and non hit). I eat the same thing every day just to keep things simple so it is very easy to lay out here.

Morning 2-3 eggs with a few slices of lean turkey with 2 peppers.

lunch a saled with handful of ground beef, almonds, sliced peppers, and avacado oil

Between lunch and dinner I will take a single slice of bread with Tuna and a slice of turkey.

Dinner ussually just the same saled as lunch and maybe some other meat.

I also have my whey protien shake after my work out which is roughly 230 calories if I remeber right.

I drink a lot of water ( roughly 120 oz a day) only non water liquid I drink is tea (oolong) and coffee with no suger. I sometimes add a teaspoon of honey though

My question is why do I not loose weight? I have hypothyiodism but I would still expect to see some sort of progress. I am gaining muscle/strenght  it is very clear with how quickly I am moving up in the weights at the gym. But I read muscle growth is to slow to offset fat loss on the scale and that it is just a myth that muscle gains can offset weight loss on the scale.

So I really can't figure out why I am not able to loose weight.  While I am glad about the muscle/strength gains I don't see the point if I can not loose body fat which leaves all this work feeling pointless. Frankly at this point I don't know what to do or think about it.

Joe,

If you have hypothryroidism, it will make weight loss more challenging especially if your Thyroxin meds are not at the right dose. If your doctor/endrocrinologist has determined your meds are at the right dosage (assuming you are on meds for your condition), then the perceived failure to lose weight could be because you are gaining muscle while losing fat. As you gain more muscle mass, you will consume more calories at rest so your body fat will decrease. It is a slow process and could take 6 months to a year to see considerable change. The key is persistance and patience. Pumping iron is key for health of the overall body and mind and body fat is not as dangerous as visceral fat (the fat inside that surrounds your organs and guts and creates the classic "beer belly"). Exercise helps reduce/eliminate visceral fat. Depending on your age and starting fitness level, body fat takes a while to be depleted when natural and not using dangerous drugs.

The only true way to know if you are losing fat and gaining muscle is to track body fat not body weight. Your body weight fluctuates throughout the day and the best time to weigh yourself is when you first wake up and after emptying your bladder and bowels and before consuming any food and liquids. You then must weigh yourself at the exact same time each day to track progress.

If you have hypothyroidism and you are not having it treated, then the ability to lose weight will be drastically hindered as your thyroid regulates your body temperature and your metabolism. As such, you should have this condition medically addressed. My advice is don't get discouraged and keep pushing on. The overall health benefits of eating right and exercising far outweight how quickly you lose body fat.

Joe,

That is great - eating right and exercising should make you feel better and improve your health. I would see if you can continue as you are doing without the need for any medication. Sometimes diet and exercise can help certain medical conditions. An Endrocrinologist will be the expert to consult on this. They may be able to recommend either no meds but continual monitoring of your thyroid or possibly low dose meds in combination with diet and exercise to improve your thyroid function.
