Hello there,

I'm overweight by about 18kg.
The side effects of my medication is weight gain. This was not the only cause, I realised emotional eating (could be binge eating) played a big role too. I strongly believe that Health is Wealth, my health is an investment, not an expense but it will be an expense if I do not invest in taking good care of it now.

I'll be on medication for a long time. My condition is Bipolar Disorder. So the problem of weight gain will not go away if I am to control my emotional eating habit. Being aware, I conclude I need to exercise on a daily basis, shed some weight and to counter weight-gain due to medication.

Loosing weight is a very hard and difficult journey. How about you, is it challenging to shed your weight?
It's not only about loosing weight, it's about getting into shape that I fancy, so how am I going to reduce belly fat?

Thanks

I didn't find the right solution from the internet.

@JensonBreck I'm confused.. in your other post you said you were 400-500lbs.. which would make you well over 18kg overweight.. ?

Anyway, I don't know a lot about bipolar disorder, but obviously you have to keep taking this mediaction, so it's going to be a case of controlling your emotional eating. In my opinion, the easiest way to combat this is going to be for you to constantly envision that shape you fancy. Every time you go to eat something, think about whether that is going to help you get to that goal shape.

You said in your other post you can jog or run but if you can bike, row and walk, that is a good start for being active to burn soem calories, and we can probably come up with some other upper body movements to help you lose some weight as well.

What do you think?

Bipolar disorder I'm not familiar with, but I do have a good friend on anti-depressants. He's told me the meds really slow down his metabolism. So even though he eats the same way he always has, he's gained quite a bit of weight.

Just because you're on this medication doesn't mean weight loss is impossible. You can do this! Exercising daily is great, but what are your macros/calories currently? Are you including filling foods (vegetables, lean protein sources, etc.) to help you stick to your goals?

I've got HFA (aka Aspergers) and Bipolar II. A few months ago, on the recommendation of a psychiatrist, my doctor prescribed me Metformin (in addition to an antidepressant and an antipsychotic).

Metformin is intended as a (type 2) diabetes drug, but it works wonders for controlling blood sugar waves in ASD patients, particularly bipolar, which keeps cravings well under control. I've been on the straight-and-narrow ever since. Talk to your doctor.
