Hey guys, I just wanted to get some opinions on if you think tattoos ruin your aesthetics? I'm split when it comes to this subject, I feel if you're huge then tattoos won't make a difference, and in some cases could make you look better. However if you're on the smaller side I feel they cover up your gains and can make you look smaller, especially if you have a full sleeve or something like that. I'm not talking shit to anybody who does have tattoos, I'm actually considering getting a sleeve myself, that's why I want some opinions on this. Also do tattoos stretch and distort as you get bigger and build muscle? My main concern is getting a sleeve, then having it look weird and distorted in a few years. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!

I absolutely love tattoos (I have an appointment scheduled to get a half-sleeve this month) but I do think to an extent if you are looking to compete on stage it may put you at a slight disadvantage. It could make it difficult to see symmetry and definition, etc.

I wouldn't worry too much about the tattoo looking distorted. Skin is very elastic. I have one on my ribs that looked a little stretched when I was 9 months pregnant but returned back to normal post baby bump.

What are you thinking of getting? :)

Some like Tats and some don't. I love Tats and many competitors have them. Tats are designed on the skin to allow for some stretch, unless you get way over weight honestly it will take many many years to get big enough to maybe look a little off. By that time if it happens you get a cover up.

I have been training coming up on 6 years and have made some great gainz. I've done a lot of trial and error on myself as well as learned from others and through research online. I've come along way in strength and size since I've started. I will continue to learn and make myself better each day. I, generally speaking, am not in favour of tattoos on bodybuilders, unless that is they have a role to play in the demonstration of muscle (which is what the sport is about).

This is a picture of a friend of mine called Paul, who sadly died in 2015 aged 80, but from 2002 to 2013 was a regular in the grand master and ultra master classes of his local federation in Washington State. His free posing routine was based on the theme of "The power of man" and had a section where he would pretend to break a chain and then hit a front double bicep pose. When I interviewed him for a magazine he said that breaking the chain was symbolising how people who are being repressed can rise up and that is why he had a tattoo of a broken chain on his bicep.

I don't do tats, but I don't dislike them either. It's just not for me right now. However, if you're planning on getting MUCH larger than you are (e.g. you're a beginner now and planning on getting some serious gains and bulking), particularly for sleeves, your arms will most likely grow a lot.

If you're not a beginner or trying to bulk VERY seriously, you should be perfectly fine.

What are you trying to get?
I'm always a fan of people's explanations for their tats as they often have great and beautiful meaning!

Hope this helped!
