What's wrong with the middle?

I see all sorts of things in the fitness world on the extremes. "You need to go "Beast Mode" in the gym or have a "Warrior Mentality (let me sell you my plan)". -"If you don't puke during your workout you didn't have a good workout (let me sell you my plan)", "You have to completely avoid (insert food/food group here) in order to achieve (insert objective here) (let me sell you my plan)",

I see it going the other way also. "Squats are bad for your back and knees - you need to work on being functional by dancing around with light weights and balancing on a physioball (let me sell you my plan) " - "You don't really need to spend more than an hour a week in the gym to get totally ripped (let me sell you my plan):", "You can keep the fat off while eating as much of your favorite greasy, sugary food as you want and more (again, let me sell you my plan)"

What happened to going in and lifting for health and life support?

I apologize for this mini rant. I just left two hours in the weight room (probably 105 minutes of it lifting - the rest recovering, cleaning up after myself, racking weights and urinating). I'm torn between thinking I spent too much time there and thinking I didn't do enough.

And I still have to do my first job, go to my second job and get my cardio sesion in.

Something's wrong...

Old enough to know better, young enough not to care. I'm an eternal rookie - As soon as I stop learning I start dying.
