So on days where I train Chest and Triceps or Back and Biceps I get really exhausted once I finish my Chest or Back workout so am unable to give it my all when training Biceps or Triceps. Due to this I cannot lift as much as I would be able to if I started doing Biceps or Triceps first. I am wondering if this would effect my gains as I am unable to lift the maximum amount of weight I usually do. I've always been told to do compound exercises first and perform all isolation exercises last. Too tackle this problem would I start by alternating between which muscle group I work first?

During you compound lifts for chest your triceps play apart as do biceps with your back. You are breaking down and fatiguing the muscles. This is why they say what ever muscle group you want to work on the most start your routine with so you can hit them the hardest. Don't worry it's normal and just because your arm curls are lighter after doing back does not mean you are taking away from them. I promise if you ever do curls first in the future you will be way stronger.

I have been training coming up on 6 years and have made some great gainz. I've done a lot of trial and error on myself as well as learned from others and through research online. I've come along way in strength and size since I've started. I will continue to learn and make myself better each day. @Joel236 Aaron is right you will obviously be getting some good bicep and tricep stimulation when training back and chest respectively. The other thing you need to keep in mind is that it's not always about how much weight you lift.. it's how much strain you are putting the muscle under in order for there to be muscle fiber breakdown for growth. I wouldn't be too concerned.

However, one thing you can to is my cheat and recover method, using a bit of momentum or a spotter on some tricep exercises where you'd like to go heavier. Or you could do your tricep exercises before you do your last chest exercise and you might have a bit more gas in the tank for them that way. For example, if you finish with some kind of fly, doing triceps before that movement won't take away much in terms of how much weight you can move for your fly.

Make sense?
