Hey yall, you can just call me Josh. My goal is to pack on muscle. Im 6 ft. 3 in. tall and I weigh 178. Im taking in anywhere from 3300-3600 calories a day consisting of 400-500 carbs, AT LEAST a gram per pound of protien, and 70-130 grams of fat. I've been working out for at least 6 yrs. I saw Scott's video on the importance of working lower body if you want to gain muscle but I need some advice on how often I should hit my legs. I currently do my lower body workout once a week, and I destroy them every single time. Is this enough?

Hey bro, honestly I like to train my legs twice a week becuase they are for 1 the largest muscle group and for 2 they are the strongest muscle group naturally. I train my legs on wednesday and Saturday each week. The gap between wednesday and Saturday allows the legs enough time to recover. Check out my leg routine for mass gain I posted in this exact muscle gain section bro. It will help a lot. I see that you are definitely eating enough to grow, so just be patient and start tearing up those legs twice a week.

I only do it once a week, however, I go very hard and heavy on them. I do see and acknowledge the benefit of doing twice a week though.

I'm 27, I'm male, I'm trying to maintain a healthy but nice physique. I weigh about 195, 6'0 I've got four large passions in my life! Sports! My Lord and Savior! P.E.! And last but not least..... My wife! HTH! I have other goals, just ask if you want to know! My handle is Big Boss, but you can just call me Allan. Finally, always remember, HTH!

Well if you completely destroy your legs then once a week is pretty solid. however you will find as you advance
using the same method you will not get further. Therefore a second day would be fairly beneficial aswell as adding
more exercises and reps. Also i strongly suggest doing burn sets, drop sets and pyramid sets as advanced bodybuilding
techniques as extremly beneficial in any case

yeah drop sets, burn sets, and super sets work very well for the quads and hamstrings.

Josh,

There is an old saying - "if you want big arms, train your legs."  The reason for this is that they are your largest collective muscle group and if trained properly they stress your entire body.  This forces your body to adapt to ALL training by making the muscles bigger.

I train legs once a week and as some of the other Hermanites have said if you train them hard enough each time, once a week is enough.  I have found that my legs respond best to high volume, medium weights.  Some people are genetically gifted and all they need to do is walk a flight of stairs and their legs explode with growth.  I am not one of them :-(   Assuming you are like me, I say make sure you use plenty of volume and try supersetting - like Squats with leg press or lunges with front squats.  If you still have a lot of energy after high volume training, add in some additional exercises to really burn them out.  I wouldn't do legs more than 60 - 75 minutes if you are natural and not using anabolics.  Too much work is counter-productive.  Being 19, you have the luxury of being able to train some muscle groups twice a week as your recovery abilities are very high.  As you get much older like me, that is not the case anymore.  If you want to try this, I would try Quads/calves day 1 and hams/calves day 2 and hit each day hard :-)
