A week ago while at work I felt a bug start setting in, it was leg day and I really really didn’t want to miss it. As the day went on the bug hit more and more aggressively, gut feeling told me this wasn’t just a cold and being that I’m getting older I decided to just go home and maybe go the next day.

‘Well this bug hit harder and more aggressive over night and had set into my lungs. Over the next 24 hours it only got worse.  I still fought the urge to go lift.

long story short I ended up with walking pneumonia, and the folks at the clinic tell me if I had gone to the gym I very well could have aggravated my condition and may have ended up in the hospital.

‘So my advice is follow your gut feeling , we are not training for the Olympia and a missed week or two is not going to ruin your physique.  Be wise, be careful and don’t let ego get you in trouble.

For me this is maybe a every 10 year rare occurrence so it’s easy to miss the onset of symptoms. So I just want to warn folks to be careful and listen to your body.

I know scott has a good video on lifting while sick and it is a good one to reference  if you are wondering if you should still train while sick.

@Herculesinwyo Great advice man. It always sucks when we have to take time off from the gym for whatever reason, getting sick being one of them. But you absolutely have to listen to your body. If it's just the sniffles then by all means go. But if it's something that is knocking you back and you can barely get the energy to get out of bed then it's best to leave the gym for another day. Like you say, you can make things worse by putting extra stress on your body from a workout while it's trying to fight whatever sickness or virus you have.

Hope you are feeling better now man!

@Herculesinwyo Glad you recovered Mike! You would have been so sore! Haha, I know that feeling of hitting legs after a little too much time off!
