I remember In the late 90’s I was the only guy at the gym that did deadlifts, yet squats were super popular . I had to find a spot in the gym with room and had to set the weights down gentle because there was no pads or platforms available.

‘Now 20 years later, same town different gym , we have 3 lifting platforms but only 2 squat racks.  I Now see so many people deadlifting , even little 90 pound ladies, and now I see way less people doing squats.

I guess gym trends are just that, we see trends come and go but I know one thing, every young guy that comes to the gym will do curls and bench hahaha.

Sorry I’m just sharing thoughts from an older lifter .

‘Rock on guys.

@Herculesinwyo That's interesting actually, from what I normally see, it's the opposite.. more racks than there are deadlift platforms. Like at the gym I go to at the moment, I have to deadlift over in a corner next to a squat rack, without a platform.

Interesting to know different gyms have different priorities!

Maybe it’s because my current gym originally started as a CrossFit gym, that trend faded and now most are there for normal gym activity lol.

I recall having to find a corner in the gym for deadlifts and actually they didn’t want us doing them, but we did anyway.m

@Herculesinwyo That could be it! It's really frustrating how some commercial gyms are trying to say you can't deadlift any more.. ridiculous.

Well if it ever comes to that for me, I guess I can make my 2000 square foot unfinished basement in to a home gym. Yet that could get expensive.

@Herculesinwyo It's convenient to be able to lift at home though! Depending on how much equipment you want though, it can get expensive.
