In an effort to hit a much higher number of protein, I'm considering going to three protein scoops a day but I'm unsure. I'm thinking one in the morning and maybe two at night.

Any thoughts about how I should go about this or if I should at all. Would this be pushing it too far? Thanks gang.

Allan,

You really can't have too much protein - within limits.  What kind of protein is it?  If it is whey and/or egg, it is better to use it pre and post workout as it is fast digesting.  If it is casein (milk protein), it is better to take before bed since it is slow digesting.  Before you decide to increase your protein supplementation, i would check your meal plan and see if you can increase the amount of protein you eat.  It is always better to get your macros from food and fill in the gaps with supplements than visa versa.

It's whey.

I've gone over what I eat and a lot of other things, and fincially and a few other things, it would be hard for me to increase it by food.

Maybe I could but it feels like the fastest way to do this is to simply do an extra scoop. That's an extra 30 right on the spot. Or maybe I should do an extra protein bar a day

I'm shooting for about 180-190

Hitting this high number is difficult and frustrating. :/ I really am trying.

I'm going to look over a few things, but this is really looking like the simplest solution. If it's not a good idea, then I am willing to try alternatives.

Of course you can use protein powder my friend.  Protein is protein.  It's not a "drug" or anything like that.  Just instead of getting it from meat or veggies (like you do as a vegitarian) you get it from a bottle. :)

Hey BigBoss,

I do a 50 gram shake in the AM and another one post workout/at night.

My concern is that you are only using whey.  I use BSN SYNTHA-6 ISOLATE.  You want a protein with fast AND slow releasing proteins in it to keep leucine levels high all day.

How much are you getting from food?

Chicken, steak, fish, Greek Yogurt, dairy... all great sources.

Are you taking any BCAAs as well?

My general protein intake, not including if I try this additional scoop like I did today sorta can look like this

Oatmeal/ small protein bar/ strawberries 16-18 Protein gram

Large Protein Bar - 30 Protein Gram

Two Turkey, cheese and peanut butter sandwichs on whole wheat bread... roughly about 40 grams

A cup or two of milk 8-16 Protein grams

Bowl of spinach maybe 2 grams of protein

Dinner which could be anything my wife chooses, and I don't get pickey because I'm just grateful for dinner. Usually, at minimum I would say about 20 grams of protein. It can go higher though

That's not all in the order that it usually happens though.

So roughly about 116-120 grams simply from food I consume. That would leave the amount of protein I'm looking at right now to consume is at about 80 grams (NOT all at once) Putting me at about about th 186-200 range.

I'm not really taking any BCAAs right now, I've really been considering getting some Amino-x, but I've had to be stingy on money recently because of some things, plus I still have quite a bit of Cell Mass (I know they are not completely the same, but in terms of post recovery, I figured I only need one post recovery)

I have used Syntha Isolate and do enjoy it, but long story short, really needed protein, GNC didn't have the Isolate, but did have a diffrent brand isolate (doesn't have any casin though) and three extra grams, and had a pretty cheap deal going on so I jumped on it.

Which also leads me to another question, what is the consensus on Protein bars? I get about 40 total grams a day out of them.

Allan,

Throw in 7 large eggs - 3 whole and 4 as egg whites - to your breakfast.  That will add 35 grams of the best protein available and it is cheaper than protein powder. :-)

If I were you I would add a little more meat and dairy to your diet. I have 2 shakes a day, 2 scoops per shake made with 8oz of milk.

your meal plan looks fine, but you do need to add in more high protein foods. I eat 300 grams of protein per day. I get most of my protein from lean meats, whey protein, milk, and eggs. I eat about 8-10 eggs per day, 4 scoops of whey per day, 24oz of low fat milk per day, 4 servings of peanut butter per day, and at least 3-4 servings of lean meat per day. You will notice your size and strength increasing by increasing your protein intake.

Nate,

Having spent many times in beautiful "Hot-lanta" in my younger days, I know how they love beef down there :-).  Just a suggestion if I may, try eating some salmon as well.  Omega -3 is killer for growth, repair, and strength and nothing beats Salmon or Tuna for that. :-)

I used to eat Chicken 2-3 times a day and beef 2 times per week.  I now eat chicken once a day and fish every night for dinner and I notice I am more leaner and I feel "better".  Not that I felt bad before but as you know meat takes a little longer for most people to digest than fish. I now get my protein from eggs, fish, chicken, and supplements (whey and casein) and it has been working great.

GREEK YOGURT man!

1 cup is like 23grams of protein.  When you first start to eat it, yes it tastes like garbage... but I LOVE IT now.  Plus, its food for gains, not for taste. :)

Great info in this thread!

ALSO, I would use AMINO-X over CELL MASS if it came down to a choice.  Your body naturally produces creatine... but it NEEDS the BCAAs :)

Hope you get your money situation solved.  I'll send you some good luck, if you win big on a scratch ticket you better give me a dollar or something

If you are vegan powders often include things you can't eat. You could try soy protein if so, the mixability is bad but it does the same thing. If you are vegetarian it is fine.
