Hey Scott, first off I'm a huge fan of yours and have been watching your
content since my freshman year of high school, well I'm now a senior in high
school and I just enlisted into the United States Marine Corps and I'm
waiting to ship in June. I've always loved working out and it's a really big
reason I enlisted into the Marines because of how much they value working
out. I'm an excellent runner but I feel like my strength side of the
spectrum is lacking, I'm able to crank out 104 sit-ups in the two minute
time period which is okay and my pull-ups is disgusting I can only do 8 and
its really disappointing, I'm also not pushing too much weight in the weight
room either. I am a taller more lanky guy that struggles with putting on
weight but I don't want that to be an excuse why I can't be the best me I
can be, I want to be able to make my boot camp experience a staple in my career and show that I'm ready to take on any challenge and go
in a stud, so I was just wondering if you had any advice for a workout
routine for me that will help me out. My workout schedule right now is
after school on Monday I will do a back exercise then go run about a mile. Tuesday's and Thursday's I go run the same distance and go do this strength and conditioning class (a lot of pull-ups and core stuff mixed with some lifting) but Wednesday and Friday I'll go to the weight
room but honestly when I go I just feel lost and don't know what to do (lifting isn't my main objective though it's becoming a better stronger faster athlete overall), what
would a good schedule look like? I just
really want to get on a schedule that will make me stronger and help me with
pull-ups but still agile for running. A response would really be appreciated
because I really just want to be the best most athletic me I can be before I
go to boot camp. Thank you much~Bobby

First off, good on your for enlisting with the Marine Corpgs @Bobby_turner30!!

For your pull-up struggles, I will post a video below that should help you increase the number you can do.

So it sounds to me like you want to be an athlete - not just a bodybuilder, but someone who can both lift weights and still be agile, mobile, and just generally athletic with most things. I can totally understand that, because it's something I try to pride myself on.

If you're sticking to a three day schedule, why not try something like an upper-lower-total body split? So maybe on Monday you could do a total body workout, then on Wednesday an upper body workout, and Friday a lower body workout. Each workout would focus primarily on your compound movements - squat, bench, deadlift, overhead press, and maybe even things like plyometrics, clean and jerks and snatches for your goals, along with your body weight stuff as well. Make sure you stick to your running schedule as well to maintain that fitness.

What do you think about that?

As for struggling to put on weight..you just need to be eating more. Have you been to the @mealplan page to calculate your macros and calories? Then you can also download my app to make sure that you are getting what you need each and every day with the meal planner on there :-)

Hope this helps!
