Hey guys, I've actually came up with something (well I am sure somebody else does this lol :P .. I was trying to be creative) I was bored of my slow walking days and I decided to actually make it tougher, strength-based and greater calorie burn, so what I did is that I got my School bag and I added my 2 pairs of 5 KG Dumbbells ..... My first try was great XD .... 10 minutes of walking with it and I am already sweating .... After 30 minutes were done, I was feeling my Traps, upper back and calves were pumped.

So I basically want to know what are the pros and cons for this type of walking, does it really burn more calories, can I make strength gains for the body parts I mentioned with it and If it can be done on an Empty Stomach or do I have to do it with food in my system?

Thanks Guys

Mohamed,

That is a great way to increase the intensity and calorie burn when walking. The higher the intensity the more calories you burn. If you do it on an empty stomach - thus in a fasted state - you will accelerate fat burn as your body will need to burn fat for energy. Another key factor is duration - the longer the walk the more calores you will burn.

These types of exercises build endurance and burn fat. They do not build strength. This is why you need to combine cardio with weight training to maximize muscle size and strength while burning fat.

I will carry a medicine ball while walking on an incline on the treadmill. Puts some pressure on the lower back but a great way to end a workout or to warm up. Definately funner than just walking.

I watch Dragon Ball Z before I work out.

John hit it right on the nail. Walking with weights is great for burning calories thus losing fat if your diet is in check, but never use it as a replacment for weight training. whats your weekly routine Mohamed?

Holding dumbbells while walking I've found to be great for forearm development, at least for me. :)
