Hi Scott!

I need your help in one thing. I was watching your video on YouTube on weight belt (https://youtu.be/DVhgx-kRkc4). I recently had an inguinal hernia surgery and it has been nearly 3 weeks for me in the gym after the surgery. Currently I'm lifting light weights but I'm looking forward to increase the weight slowly. So, would you recommend me to use a weight belt because after a surgery I don't want to weaken my core more, also it is weakened due to surgery too. I am really confused because my doctor is not helping me in this and want some help from you.

Hey Ankit.

First off, please make sure you post this kind of question in the correct thread.. this would be best in INJURIES or TRAINING EQUIPMENT :-)

How long did your doctor tell you to take it easy in the gym? I think a month would be long enough, but double check with him (if he helps you with that info haha).

Use a belt for your compound lifts, but your other lifts shouldn't require a belt I don't think, even after having the surgery. Once you start working up to using heavier weights again, just see how you feel. If there is significant pain or discomfort, it's probably best to not go that heavy yet. If it's slightly annoying but you think it could become worse, try the belt and see if that helps. Only use the belt until you're confident you are back to 100%.
