Hey Guys... I know cramps are somehow commonly experienced in fitness and working out. But lately I've been experiencing these seemingly "not normal" cramps which I never had even when I was doing sports.

Most of the time I feel cramps on my left lats or at my right chest muscles also butt cramps, which is very unusual because I never had any if these until these last few months. And I really wanna get rid of them.

I dont know if it's nutrition related of I'm just not doing the proper stretching and I really wanna hear your insights and advices regarding this matter.

Thanks Guys.... #HTH

Rel,

Cramps are usually caused by loss of electrolytes during excessive sweating or exertion - especially potassium - and dehydration. Our nervous system runs on sodium, potassium, and calcium. Since many of us get more than enough sodium and calcium daily, it is usually potassium that is the culprit. You also need plenty of water for all the systems to work properly. Are you eating enough vegetables? Have you tried having a banana before you hit the gym? Are you staying hydrated? I live in Singapore so we are just as hot and humid as the Philippines. I have always sweated a lot but I really get drenched when I workout here. I make sure to eat tons of vegetables and other good sources of potassium as well as drink lots of water.

Hey there John.. Thanks for the info, now that you've said that I realized that maybe I am overlooking my diet a bit, the last few months have been crazy due to lots of travelling and processing document's which almost occupies a LOT of my time and due to that my diet has been affected.

Banana's are always available here in PH so I doubt that I lack potassium. There are always banana's at our table everytime I come home and I also love them. I stepped back a bit on my last few months after reading your post and boy you were right. I was lacking hydration and vegetable's for the last few months. You know when tons of work is needed to be done, you dont have time to cook or at least prepare a decent meal, everything is on the go. Now it's taking it's toll on my body.

Thanks for the information John, it's one hell of a wake up slap in the face haha!! I'll always remember to stay hydrated often and at least have vegetable's even once a day.

John already gave you good advices and explanation. Don't forget also on magnesium.

Also make sure you are well streched and relaxed. I don't think as right after workout but as general. If you are tight, go on massage, yoga or whatever and make your body/muscles relaxed.

If you have muscle imbalances, work on this first.

Start with lighter weights and build some strength/endurance first (muscle adaptation).

As you already mentioned, your problem was dehydration, I stated some more reasons which could help to someone other.

Hey there Gregor, thanks for the advice. I'll do a research on magnesium and it's sources, I think I'll get a massage every once in a while cause' I never tried any kind of yoga and I read somewhere that massage's increases blood flow.

I'm a right handed person so definitely my force is greater at my right side maybe that explain the reccuring cramps on my left lats, but my right chest cramps is still a mystery haha!!!

Thanks for the advice man...... You're an IronMan finisher.. That's AWWWWWWEEESSSSOOOMMEEE!!!!!
