I've really been kicking up my Ab and cardio portions of my workouts and have noticed that I get insane cramping way more than I should. Typically it's only my quads (Especially the day after leg day), calves (Running and Swimming), and lower abdominals (ab workouts). I tend to sweat more than the average person also. My diet is fairly balanced and I drink over a gallon of water daily. My suppliments are currently -

Pre Workout - C4 Ultimate

BCAA - Optimum Nutrition 5000 BCAA (Taken typically with Pre workout)

Protein - Optimum Nutrition Gold Standard Whey (4 times a day including pre and post workout)

At Night I take - Optimum Nutrition ZMA and Fish Oil

I'm thinking I might have an electrolye deficency, so I was looking into something like this - https://www.amazon.com/Medique-03033-Medi-Lyte-electrolyte-replacement/dp/B004IZA46S?tag=runnerclick02-20

Theres no additives, caffine or sugar in the product. Its only got

  • Potassium chloride 40mg.
  • Calcium phosphate 18mg.
  • Magnesium carbonate 9mg.

What do you guys think? Also could an electroylyte defecency be possibly holding me back from ym full potential in my workouts?

Thanks in advance,

Mario

Honestly, it's probably just your salt intake. If you don't get enough salt, that can lead to cramps, and if you sweat a lot, that means a lot of sodium/salt leaving the body. Double check your sodium intake first, maybe add some more salt and see if that helps! Also try stretching everything after a workout/cardio if you aren't already.. that can help to keep everything loose too!

Thanks Scott. I will try to up my leg stretching game. I've always had issues with super tight Hamstrings. I'm wondering if thats causing issues in other places. I try to drink at lteast 32-64oz of water during my workout. This isn't including the 12-16oz of water with my preworkout, then 12-16oz of water with my BCAA and then another 12oz of water with ym protein!! I typically drink a minimum of a gallon to 2 gallons per day depending if Im working out or not.

Yeah so it sounds like your hydration levels are fine, which means it's probably due to tightness from lack of stretching and/or your sodium intake. Hopefully fixing both will stop the cramping 😁

Don't forget to do dynamic stretching BEFORE workouts and static stretching AFTER.

hello, my question is this. i have been working out for about 2 years. my macros, water, rest days, and sleep are on point. i workout 3 days a week. mostly full body workouts. almost everytime i work out i get DOMS and a feeling of aniexty the next day. i used to binge drink on my weekend like 30 beers over 2 days. its been over a month now since i have done that. any ideas or suggestions as to why it keeps happening. my results far outweight my discomfort but it would be nice to understand whats going on with me. im 42. 6 foot 3, 240 pounds

Is there any way of making up an electrolyte rehydration solution at home?

The sachets are pretty expensive in the shop.

Is there a simple recipe for achieving something that would do the job at home?
