Which type of proteins are best for weight loss?

Differences between whey, casein, blends, etc.

Hi Nation,

I've read a little on the different types of protein but I'm still confused by which kind(s) would be best as I'm trying to lose fat primarily. I currently am using CytoSport Muscle Milk Lean Muscle Protein Powder (it's a blend). i plan to use protein as a post workout, an occasional preworkout & as a meal/snack replacement on days I'm stuck at work (restaurant work so generally long hours & no breaks in the wonderful state of GA). To help with fat loss, should I continue using my current protein, get rid of it or use it with another protein such as Isopure which is said to be carb free or either low in carbs (can't remember). Any suggestions on which protein type to use & when best to use them would be helpful. Thanks Nation!

I'm a beginner with some gym/workout knowledge that has mostly come from friends, reading & web searching. If I don't know the answer, I'll be happy to help you find it!

Hi man,

you don't need to make science from proteins. At first calculate your calorie need for one day and then calculate your macros. Then your main task is to make sure that you feel that needs.

Proteins as supplements in general divide in two groups: whey and casein. Both are milk product. Whey is diggested faster and is therefore more suitable for pre-/post-workout meal, because it provide amino acids faster. Casein is known as slow-release protein source, because form solid formation in stomach and release amino acids for longer time. Therefore casein is more suitable as before sleep meal or over day. Casein is sold either as casein either as protein mix.

I think that's enough to know and don't complicate too much :)

I agree with Gregor on this..........keep it simple and use fast acting proteins pre/post workout and Casein before bed with water :-)
