Creatine has a long term effect both when it comes to your strenght and your energy levels. This means that you will become stronger over time aswell as visually "bigger" (we are not talking adding 2 inches on your arms, but you will notice a difference). The supplement has a proven effect and I can therefore recommend you to take it if you feel like you need it. Mind you that some creatines hold water weight, you are therefore likely to lose some muscle defenition. Moreover you have only been working out for 1 year. I have been training for 3 years now, without any use of supplements. (yes that does include protein powder). In other words I would wait for a while befoure actually going on creatine for the simple reason that you are allowing your body to grow without any interference of powdered help. I think it would make you mentally stronger to push yourself without it for at least another year. Then you will already have gained tons of strenght and as you jump on creatine you will really notice the difference and likely be happy that you waited for a little while.

Hey man!

Most lifters take creatine because it allows the body to produce more energy, and with more energy " you can lift heavy weights with more reps " and "your muscles will get bigger and stronger. Yes! creatine use can increase maximum power and performance in high-intensity. Even your stomach is empty and you take 5 grams of creatine 30 minutes before your workout ,it will provide you a lot of energy that you need.

However, in taking creatine... you should drink a lot of water a day to prevent dehydrations. If you do not drink enough water dehydration can be a negative side effect. This is not a concern for those drinking proper amounts of water on a daily basis. Taking more creatine is not going to help. Taking more than recommended creatine grams per day increases your risk of dehydration with no increases in performance. Kidneys are the #1 organ effected by dehydration for too much creatine. For your own good consult first to your doctor before taking such creatine supplements, because if you have kidney complication...taking creatine is not advisable for you.

Take creatine 5 grams daily ( 30 minutes before workout ), that's the safe recommended usage. Others take creatine by following the LOADING options and for me that option is not good.

HOPE this simple tips will HELP you.

Great information William,

But please keeping in mind that CREATINE is already naturally occuring in your body. Taking a creatine supplement is adding anything "new", you are just giving your body more of what it already has. This will help with energy and strength.

Dylan, 5-10grams a day will be definitely ok for you. All you are doing with taking creatine is helping to replenish your ATP stores faster for more energy during lifts. I use BSN CELL MASS myself.

Hope this helps!

Definitely no need for a "loading" phase. It does nothing for you. Just stick to the 5-10grams a day and you are good to go.

I am fully aware of that fact, hence the reason why I said "powdered help" since it is after all in powdered form.

Creatine doesn't cause extra cellular water retention. Yes, there is cell volumization that deals with water retention within the cell and is tied to greater muscle protein synthesis and that translates to greater muscle size and strength. In fact you're always going to see muscle hydration/water retention within anabolic states. If there were any type of increase in water weight with creatine it would happen with some folks during a loading phase but even then it would be short-term and more importantly it doesn't have the bloating characteristics that you'd expect with water retention. If you want more details check out this Will Brink interview starting at 19:06. Water retention is discussed at 22:55. The entire interview is great though.

You may also see unsubstantiated claims that creatine can cause dehydration and muscle pulls and therefore increasing your fluid intake is necessary when supplementing with it. However, the research has not shown this to be the case. Supplementing with creatine has never been shown to be toxic to the kidneys but if you suffer from a pre-existing kidney disease you may want to check with your doctor first before adding additional creatine to your diet.

I guess I'm still trying to understand your question. You asked "is this a good creatine?" but what creatine are you referring to?

The short answer is all you need is 100% creatine monohydrate powder (not capsules). If you're not sure about quality, find any of numerous labels that uses Creapure which ensures its purity.

Don't waste your money on designer creatine types such as creatine ethyl ester (CEE), Kre-Alkalyn, conjugated creatine (Con-Cret), etc. They're not as effective and cost more.

Will taking 5g of creatine monohydrate a day cause water retention to the point that my muscles will look less defined?

Hey guys! Sorry I havent been on for such a long time.

Just a quick revamp on the creatine.

It was a while ago but it was okay not the best I've used so far ( in the time I havent really been on here I was training & busy with exams & school.) I would say I maybe got a bit bigger or how you want to call it. But I didn't got any strength increase with it or something like that.

I've been growing a lot in these past few months and I'll be updating my account so you'll maybe notice a difference.

Cheers everyone for posting here and helping me out!

Kind regards,

Dylan!
