I find myself backed into a corner here. To keep it brief, I have started a new career path as an electrician here in Tucson. I am a 1st year electrician's apprentice with class Tuesdays and Thursdays with a typical Monday through Friday work week. Previously as a nursing assistant, I was able to workout my 3 day/full body workout session without a hitch but since i have started my new career, I find it very difficult to even drive to my gym, let alone leave my house after work, where my home gym just sits and collects dust. So my question is, is there anyone else whose having this difficulty and any advice to over come this? Im not in terrible shape but work does wear me down to a point where i don't even want to leave the couch now and I cant stand it (pun intended). I'll be happy to answer any questions such as my diet, hobbies, workout routine, ect

-ps

Well.. this is going to sound pretty basic but.. you just need to find the self motivation. That's all there is too it. There must have been something that got your driven to start working out in the first place, right? Think about that. If you can find that reason again, you'll also find the time to do something.

Maybe you have to start off small.. like 15-20 minutes a day and build into full routines again. Is it also possible for you to workout in the mornings? That way you've got it done, it's out of the way, and then when you come home from work you don't need to even think about it. Or do you have an hour lunch break you could use? Doing it before you finish work sometime might be beneficial.

There's also an entire home program on the site you can use if you want to stick to home workouts for a while! http://muscularstrength.com/12-Week-Home-Program

I was litery about to post about this and ask the same question . I have the same problem I work construcsion also and nothins sucks worse than going to work to dig diches all sore fome yesterdays work out. on that same note there is nothing more discuraging than getting home form work and having no desire to work out especialy for me since this is my first attemp at getting in to shape. the only thing that keeps me fome blowing up like a baloon like you see so many construction workers do is meal prep before hand. I dont even have all of my macros and micros in order but im fairly confidant to say that nothing from a gas station or fast food place is what you should be eating to both keep what you have in muscle and take advantage of the effort during the day. so I always take luch with me with plenty of good food to keep me going during the day and help me turn down the offers of soda and fast food durning the day. my bigest question is does it get easier ? one of the reason I want to get in to shape is so that I dont die when I have to work in the hot sun trowing a shovel all day. I can deal with some soreness from the day before and might even have some extra energy to work out after work if i had the hope that it would bot be troture all the time.

I guess the same as what I said above applies here about finding the self motivation, maybe working out at home for a start. I can only imagine how tough it must be to work such a physically demanding job, and then have to try going to get a lift in afterwards.

But it's awesome to hear that you are meal prepping, that's definitely a key to staying on track and staying away from temptation.

Is there any way you can workout in the morning before work? That way, once you get home at night and you're abosolutely toasted, you'll know you've already smashed your workout for the day and you can just relax.

And I don't really know from experience in your field.. but I would say that once you get into a routine, it would get easier. Some days will still be rough no doubt, but I think they would gradually decrease as you did it more and more. Hope that helps man!
