Hey Guys!,

I'm brand new to the website. I found Scott on YouTube years ago and have been watching his great videos. I was stand offish from the website, but now I like it. It is very helpful.

My first question is about leg growth. I used to be a wrestler and used to do leg workouts like a monster for the advantage in the sport. Now I don't need the advantage and just want to look better all around. I naturally have pretty big quads. I am 5'5'' so having big quads to me kinda feels or makes me unsemetrical (personal opinion) My question is; how do I tone up my legs, without putting huge mass on them? I know body fat takes care of some of it. I just remember in wrestling Doing squats made my quads huge, wich is great, but I'm not exactly looking for that. Just definition and look. Also to fit jeans and shorts better.

My second question is about shoulder popping. First off, I know form and warm-up might be a little bit of it, but I think my form is good, and I do warm up my shoulders first. I usually only get shoulder popping from bench press and dips. I do not get popping from dumbell bench press though. I just want to know if that popping is harmful or goes away over time. Generally, what is that shoulder popping.

Third question is about cramping in the left palm when curling. Whenever I ez-curl, preacher curl, or barbell curl, I get this cramp in my palm imediatly after the set and it becomes painful to open palm. So I have stopped doing those and only been dumbell curling lately as I don't get pain that way. So, is there some cure for that, or even what does it mean?

Thank you,

Cody

Hey, Cawood. Towards your shoulder issues, check out the first linked video below from Athlean-X. It works, I don't touch weights till I do it. The second video is directed to bench press specifically, and you might find it helpful. For the legs, you could lift bro-style. Chest and biceps daily, those dudes have small legs. Really though, I have no idea how to get slim---toned legs. I wish I had that answer, finding pants that fit is a serious problem. The struggle.

We'll start with your legs question.. probably your best bet would be to just reduce frequency for starters. If you think they are ahead of the rest of your physique, train them once a week if you are training the other parts twice. And basically, if you don't want to add more muscle, then don't train to break the muscle down. Just train to retain what you have. So probably lighter weights, chasing the pump more than anything. You probably don't need to go too close to fatigue - still challenge yourself, but not to the point of cooking your legs by the end of the workout. Make sense?

For your shoulders.. if there is no pain, then the popping might not be an issue. Sometimes joints can pop and crack because of air bubbles in there. But what kind of shoulder warm up do you currently do?

That cramp in your palm sounds odd, I have heard of forearm cramp before.. but not palms haha. It's only on bicep exercises with a bar? No other exercises?

Thanks Scott. Yeah I’ll keep that in mind for the legs. As for my warmup I’ve been starting with a light stretch then a band and doing shoulder rotations front to back. I think I learned that one from one of your videos. Keeping the band in tension between both arms and rotating them about the shoulders. Then I do shoulder swings or arm rotations by themselves. As for my palm... yeah it’s only when I do bicep curls. I tried to see if deadlifts or bent over rows with barbell would cause the same thing but it doesn’t. I thought I was just gripping too tightly but when I went with a loose grip I still got the cramp. When I do dumbbell curl it doesn’t get that cramp. It’s super weird.

Thank you. I’ll check those links out. I’m not too worried about the popping in the shoulder as I have no pain, but I am curious about it tho. I don’t recall ever having it before, but I was out of the gym for a couple months so didn’t know if that would affect it in anyway.

That shoulder warm up sound solid enough then.

That's really odd about your palm.. I wonder if it's actually something in your forearm that is ending in your palm? Unless it's somehow a problem with the bars in your gym.. but it's really hard to say. Have you tried curling with the bar but without wrapping your thumb around? So just a hook grip?
