Having a hard time knowing when the best time to eat healthy fats are? Also a list of some really good proteins would be helpful.

Also, I am on a low carb diet until I can lose the last bit of my lower stomach fat to really tone my abs, so I was wondering if it would be best to eat the majority of my carb intake before and after my workouts or should i still be spreading them out throught the day? I know you aren't suppose to be eating a lot of carbs later in the day so thats where my question comes in.

Matt,

The best time to eat carbs is during breakfast and after workout. If you are on low carbs diet, you should eat high protein and healthy fats.

Here are some good quality of protein and healthy fats.

1. Eggs ( I consume 12 eggs a day, 4 egg yolks and 8 egg white)

2. Fish ( tuna , salmon)

3. Chicken

4. Nuts

5. Lean beef

6. Yogurt or soy milk

7. olive oil

8. Avocados

9. tofu

10. peanut butter

Matt,

Healthy fats should be eaten at every meal - there is no best time. As for carbs, the best time to consume them and consume the majority of your daily intake is after your workout. At this time, your glucose levels are low or depleted and the carbs you ingest will be used to replenish these stores. As long as you don't eat too many carbs, none will be stored for body fat. I eat a small amount of oats with my first meal and I have my biggest serving of brown rice after my workouts.

Sounds like for you it would be a great idea to focus on carbs for breakfast and lunch @MattMiller.

There is nothing wrong with fats before OR after your workout, in fact you should be having them at both times. Fats are a source of energy, just like carbs. And after your workout, you should have a balanced meal with protein, carbs AND fat.

Protein, carbs, and fats should be part of every meal. Carbs should be limited to early morning and post workout with the largest amount eaten post workout. It all has to do with insulin. Carbs are the only macro that stimulate insulin release. Insulin is a very important and powerful hormone. It signals all your cells to take in nutrients which aides growth. It also tells the fat cells to store any unused calories which contributes to fat gain. This is why you want to eat the bulk of your carbs post workout as this is when all your cells need refueling. As long as you don't eat too many carbs, none of it will be stored as fat and all will be used for energy and growth :-)

No, eat the majority of your carbs then if it is your post workout meal. Have a little more with lunch and then none with dinner.

I'm sorry I meant my breakfast is my PRE workout meal! sorry for that, my brain was thinking too far ahead of my hands lol :) So, a little carbs then and then majority for lunch, which is my post workout meal.

I'm trying this new diet where for 4 days I swtich how many carbs I eat. Ex:

day 1: ultra low carbs

day 2: low carbs

day 3: medium carbs

day 4: high carbs

Do you think this is the best for what i'm trying to accomplish, lose the rest of my stubborn belly fat but get lean, or should I just eat what my macros are everyday? which is more affective?

Matt,

It is hard to say. Carb cycling like you have outined here works for some. It didn't really work for me which is why I am doing Intermittent Fasting which has worked. Everyone is different so you really need to try it to see how your body responds.

No worries man!

Looks like John has helped you sort out your carb intake times.

One other option, apart from your four day carb 'split' and just eating normal macros every day, is to take one or two days to have a refeed. This is where you increase your carbs to make up for having relatively little amounts every other day. For example, you might eat anywhere up to 50g or even 100g extra carbs on your refeed, 100g more if you were on a super low carb diet.

Just remember it is all about trial and error!
