When doing the incline bench, should you have a wide or narrow grip? I've read there are different reasons to do either but my reason is just to develop my chest.

Also should your arms travel in a straight line when doing an incline bench? I usually have a slight curve when the bar is raised on flat bench i.e. th ebar would travel from touching my lower chest so when my arms are in the air they inline around my upper chest.

As long as your elbows are kept straight under your wrist you're good. That's the grip I use. I don't like to go too wide. I feel like its hard on my shoulders.

Wider grips focus on the chest but put more strain on the shoulders. Closer grip puts more emphasis on the triceps. You need to use a grip that feels "natural" with your shoulder girdle width. Arms/elbows should be at a 45 degree angle and the bar should hit across your upper chest. John

I put my hands between the two smooth parts that works pretty well for me. But as stated above it is ment to feel natural and not side load more to triceps or shoulders. But I strongly prefer dumbbell presses myself I feel that I get much better contact with my chest doing them.

I keep pretty much the same form.... except that my hands will be slightly wider. Just feels more comfortable for me. Maybe like 1 inch wider on each side.

With Incline / Decline / Flat Bench I had to find what was comfortable and listen to my muscle to let me know that my chest was indeed what was being worked and not the shoulders or triceps. Started light and made sure of grip and form.

Also started messing around a little with reverse grip ... anyone else done much reverse grip on flat bench?
