We all go to the gym and see those guys that lift heavy but their form isn't good at all. Either they don't realize they are doing it wrong or their ego won't let them lol. But nation don't sacrifice going super heavy if your not gonna keep the proper form of the exercise. Doing the exercise the right way is much safer and you will see gains more frequently when you do the exercise the right way.

Well said jonnyboy21! No point in counting 1RM if it was done with sloppy form right?

Jon,

I would also add don't lift beyond your means - as you get older, most people can't lift as much as younger people or what they could when they were younger.  I personally had a very close call doing dead lifts two days ago where although my form was perfect the weight was too much for my un-assisted switch grip (I normally use lifting straps and an overhand grip) and I strained my left forearm and bicep.  Fortunately I was lucky I didn't rupture my bicep tendon or do worse just some bruising and swelling :-).  It was a major reminder and wake-up call that I am almost 50 not 25 anymore and my muscles and tendons have endured 30 years of lifting already. So the moral of the story is it is not only critical to use proper form but also don't push your body too fast into unfamiliar territory when you are older.

I have corrected the same dudes on how to bench properly at least 5 times in a row.... they still bench with half reps.. :/

Your friend needs a basic anatomy lesson.  The bicep attaches into your forearm below the elbow.  There are no muscles in the elbow but the biceps and triceps are what provide movement for the joint.  The reason he can't lift the weight when he goes all the way down is his biceps have not gained strength thru full range of motion.  He will have less of a peak and less strength if he keeps training his biceps with half reps.
