Hey folks-

I saw Marcus L is also a hockey player.  Anyone else?

If so, I would love to discuss training protocols and what, if anything, you have found with the popular programs on the market for hockey players.  Personally, I have tried most of the major programs you can find and each of them has had some pluses-and conversely- some real negatives.

I would consider my fitness level as excellent (but I am always looking for new thoughts and ways to improve).  My job requires that I maintain a high level of strength as well as the ability to put out and sprint  (and even sometimes run for some distance) under load so my fitness has always been solid.  I also have a competitive combat sports background.

Anyone?

Well I'm not a hockey player, but out of curiosity.. ice or field hockey?

Also, if you need good sprinting ability, are you doing some plyometric work to work on explosiveness?

Ice, ice baby. Is there any other true hockey? And you're from Mass and you don't skate? Dang man! Ha!

Yes I sprint in all three planes and work directional loading and exploding aas well as integrate quite a bit of plyometrics. I also stress explosiveness on compound movements.

Sounds like your sprint training is on point then!

I think most of your hockey ability will be skill and balance then. Maybe some good shoulders to get maximum power through your hits as well.. and of course for bowling over the other players :-D
