Newbie here. . .assuming we properly classify previous attempts in my youth as examples of poor form, insufficient diet, lack of knowledge, etc. (I will blame it on herd mentality 😐 )

Some basic core stretching exercises a few months back led to some dumbbells, weight bench/basic set of weights, and so on. My trying to do things correctly has certainly paid off so far, and that is why I kept coming back here.

It appears many of the workout routines on this site are geared for people at/with pro gym equipment. I am not ruling that out down the line, but I wonder how well I can suffice with what I have?

If I outgrow the stuff, GREAT. But, I am not running out just yet. And it isn’t so much the cost, but I do like the convenience of having the stuff in my basement.

(45, 170#, 5’9”, looking to gain some strength/muscle. While nice, I am not worrying about getting the frat boy image. I want to set reasonable and achievable goals. )

@jrs8084 If you have dumbbells, a bench, a barbell and the basics like that, you should be able to do a good portion of the Full Body Evolution program. I tried to make that a free weight only program - no machines. If you don't have a squat rack then obviously squats and rack pulls might be a bit difficult, but you should be able to do most exercises and any that you can't do, you can post on the FBE routine that you're struggling with (in terms of exercises) and we can give you some alternatives!

Update: Great new! I have been able to make this work. I have invested more in additional equipment, and hanging a pullup bar was one of the best things I did. Having things at the house sure is nice. Now I just have other people wanting to come to the house. . . 😕

I'm only 8 months into this, but the paybacks have been nice. (I guess that is the phase where you start to learn what does/doesn't work for me) KISS and work on the core excercises have been essential for me.

I didn't know how this would work out, but it has been rewarding both physically and mentally!

@jrs8084 Haha the joys of having a home gym - as soon as your friends know you have one they all want to come and use it!

That's great man! KISS is a great rule of thumb to go by haha and being 8 months into it you will have seen a lot of positive changes! Glad you were able to make it work and make some gains my bro! Keep it up!
