It's only with lateral raises that you get the pain @talhaarshad? If it hurts without weight, then there probably is something wrong there - might some tightness, maybe impingement. It's hard for us to say exactly what's wrong on the internet.

Go and see a sports massage therapist, they should have a good idea of what's going wrong in there.

Well i can't see the doctor or sports therapist really.

Reason for that is pretty wierd.. well but lemme explain..

My mom got spinal surgery because she lifted weight in home with wrong form. Now she can't bent spine and doctors said that this issue will remain forever and little bit pain will be forever there. She has to eat a lot of medicines. Calcium capsules, disk recovery capsules etc.

So whenever I get even a littlw bit pain she gets worried as hell as if I drowned in water or as if I broke my bone.

So 1 month back when i was convincing her to join the gym, I promised her that I won't injure myself in the gym.

But now I get this little pain.( It's not really is intense or whatever but just a light sharp pain). So if I told her that I want money bcz I injured. She'd never allow me to even see the gym again.

So.. I wanna know will it heal itself? Can i take off for 3 to 4 days conpletely.

I hole you understand what are my problems. As I'm not a adult who can handle this issue alone.

Hey scott I've asked online medical support a question. And they replied it.

Here's my question and their answer.

Your question:

Hey, I get a little bit shoulder pain or light shoulder pain when I raise my arm laterally to the side. I don't know what to call it but it;s very light. and only happens when.

1.First I rest my arm in any normal position

2. When I raise my arm to the side, I get a slight little pain.

3. WHen I keep on raising it again and again it doesn't happen. Please help me I'm only 15 and I've been going to the gym for 1 month.

Latest response:

Talha, Thank-you for contacting Ask the Expert.

Talha, from the sounds of it seems that you may have overstretched some of the muscles around the shoulder whilst’ working out’.

With any muscle injury it can take a good 4-6 weeks for full healing to occur.

I would recommend using heat and ice packs to the shoulder area as this can help reduce swelling and help with blood circulation to the muscle promoting healing of the injury.

You may wish to take Paracetamol and Ibuprofen according to the dose recommendations on the medication instructions ensuring that there are no interactions with health conditions or other medicines that you may be taking.

I would recommend that you review your exercise regime with a personal trainer in order to adapt your routine and ensure you are not overstretching the muscles around your upper body, back and shoulders.

If the discomfort continues for a long time then a trip to see your Doctor (GP) may be needed and other investigations may be required.

I hope this helps,

Kind Regards,

So scott please tell me how long should I not directly workout my shoulders?

The pain is not that bad. It's just a click type pain and also I'm 15 so does it take a lil bit faster for muscle to heal?

and what did she meant by "OVERSTRETCHED A MUSCLE" AND

what did she meant by this?

And yeah.. in my gym there's no certified trainer. They don't even know a single thing of form. They are believers of broscience.

Please explain as you've so much experience in bodybuilding and I'm just a noob.

I don't wanna lose my muscle mass I gained in last 3 weeks (Mostly on shoulders as I love doing shoulders) so please help me. I'm a type of kid who gets bullied a lot at school and that was the main reason for me to join gym.

Overstretching basically means hyper-extension - stretching it further than it should be, it can happen from time to time, it's possible that's what has happened.

Don't take the paracetamol or ibuprofen if it doesn't hurt during the day. If it's only when you raise your arm laterally to the side, then just don't do that, and you won't get the pain. Therefore you shouldn't need the drugs to stop the pain. They're not bad, I'm just saying you don't need them if you don't have pain, or significant pain. So avoid lateral raises.

Honestly, I don't know how long it will take to recover. Could be 1 week.. could be 2.. could be 4-6 weeks. Only time will tell. You need to see if there are any movements you CAN do with your arm - mobility and rehab movements. Watch the video below, and try some of the exercises shown. If you can do them WITHOUT pain, they might help the recovery process.

Also, I'm NOT a medical professional, keep that in mind. I can't diagnose exactly what's going on with your shoulder. I'm simply trying to give you advice. Whether you take it is up to you.

IF you get pain with the rehab movements, then you need to just fully rest your shoulder, and yes try the heat or ice packs to see what makes it feel better. You have to let injuries heal rather than making them worse. Don't be discouraged bro! If you let it heal fully, you'll come back stronger once you're back to your normal routine!
