I recently did a BodPod measurement. For those that aren’t familiar, it’s an air tight pod that is one of the most accurate ways of measuring body fat.  I wanted to use that measurement to compare with my home scale that much less accurately measured body fat. Well, my results from the BodPod were a bit disappointing from the way I look and feel. My measurement was 20.6%. My goal is to get to 14-15%.

Currently I work out at least 5x week (3x weights/2x 5K run). Eat 2500 calories/day with 1/3 of those calories almost split between fat/carbs/protein. I sit at a desk most of the day for work.

Any suggestions on meeting my goal of 14-15% BF?  What have been your experience with BodPod measurements?

@kyushu2002 I've never used a BodPod personally, but they are definitely a good accurate measurement. But one thing to keep in mind is not to get caught up in numbers. Numbers are great, but what matters is how you feel and how you look. So if you look and feel good, that's what matters more!

But definitely a good goal to get down towards 14% - 15% body fat. You say you have a pretty even 1/3 split across all your macros - so by that do you mean you're getting about 830 calories from each (830 calories x 3 = 2490 calories)?

So that would have your macros looking something like this...

Protein: 205g

Carbs: 205g

Fat: 91g

Is that about right?

Totally didn’t see this response. My apologies. That breakdown is about correct Scott. Goal is to get at least 1-1 ratio of pound/gram of body weight and protein.

Yesterday was a lot of red meat thus a bit higher in fat, but its what a more typical day-to-day breakdown looks like, with a goal of 2500 calories. I was short 115 calories for the day.

Any suggestions on what to tweak or focus on better to reach that goal of 14-15% BF?

@kyushu2002 Well the carbs are nice and low already so that's good to see. It might be a matter of reducing overall calories, or adding in a little more cardio.

But how long have you been following these macro numbers? Did you change to this AFTER you got your bod pod results, or have you been using these for a while now?

Hey Scott, I’ve been doing this for about 9 months, fairly consistently with little variability. Today’s results were 2618 calories with this breakdown.

Overall, I feel and look the best I’ve ever been in my life, but want to take it up a notch. I wouldn’t mind adding a few pounds of mass while decreasing body fat to the goal range.

Perhaps add some HIIT during the week?

Adding in cardio is definitely an easy way to shred a few pounds.  In my opinion its always better to do some extr caardio if you can because when you reduce calories, you also lose the nutrients that come with those lost calories.

Maybe start off with 3 days of 30 minutes?  See how you feel?
