Although the shape of your biceps will be determined by your genetics, you can always build bigger arms by increasing the size of the muscle. The biceps or “Biceps Brachii” consists of two heads, the inner head (short head) and the outer head (long head).

Depending on the grip used with various bicep exercises, you can actually target each head to ensure that you are in fact working both areas effectively.

If you are looking to switch up your bicep workout, in this video I have included my top two favorite exercises to work the outside head of the bicep as well as my top two favorite exercises to work the inside head of the bicep. #HTH #SHFAthlete

Hey SHF community,

Yesterday I was finishing my bicep workout with hammer curls 4 sets of 10 holding 3 seconds on the way down.  I was experiencing that my left shoulder was almost giving out on the way down once I was getting fatigued towards the last sets.  The reason I am concerned is because my focus was lost on my bicep and more ingaged into my shoulder when I really wanted to get a good burn in my bicep consedering this was my finishing burnout workout.  Any recommendation or thoughts on why my shoulder is getting so ingaged?

Thanks and keep up the hard work SHN!!! =]

Well @thomer13, the hammer curl works the brachialis much more than the short head and the long head of the bicep which is a good reason why you might not beel "feeling it" in your biceps as much as well brotha!

You could be inadvertingly involving your anterior deltoid in raising the weight - especially as you fatigue. Many people bring their elbows back when lowering the weight and then bring their elbow forward when raising the weight. Your shoulder is the muscle performing this movement not the bicep. The best way to eliminate it is either doing preacher or spider dumbell curls or consciously locking youe elbows against your body as you curl the weight.

I really enjoy the hammer curls so I will focus more on keeping my elbows back and not engaging my shoulders. Thanks for the info :)
