Changing Up The 12 Week Program?

In case equipment is unavailable.

Good Evening Scott. I have been surfing your site nonstop, pretty much everyday since I joined. I must say, looking at your program really excites me and I am ready to kick this into high gear as of Monday. I just checked out the 12 week program, and I see it consists of having a bench, cables, barbell and dumbbells. Now I will admit, entering into the gym on Monday afternoon after work is a challenge. Because everytime I want to use a barbell to bench press, as an example, it is always occupied. People are always hogging the equipment like it is theirs. I would be lucky to get a pair of dumbbells to work with. So, I am wondering can this be resolved? In case I walk into the gym on Monday afternoon, or any day next week, and the equipment is occupied, can the program be tweaked a little bit to fit my situation?

Yes you can make changes where needed. If you can't get a barbell bench, use dumbbells. If you can't get dumbbells, use a barbell. If you can't get either of them, I suggest you simply ask whoever is using the equipment that you want (nicely) if you can work in with them in-between their sets.

Most people are cool at the gym and this shouldn't be a problem 😊 Then if you want to move to the cables but someone is using it (let's say you need to do a chest fly), then do dumbbell flys instead. If you need to do a tricep pushdown, then just do a different exercise until the cables are free.

Hope that helps!

Hi Scott: I had been following you since some years ago, and had use some of our routines with good results. Now I am working out with your 12 week program, but the issue is that it takes more than 1hr and I only have 40-45 mins max in the morning to workout. Do you have any advice on how to do it or adapt it and have a good result? Thank you!

Hey @erickmtgp! Which 12 week program are you doing? The 5 Day Body Building split? Or the 12 week PPL program? If it's the PPL program, you can superset some exercises to cut down your workout time.

If it's the 5 Day split, you can still superset, but it will be pretty intense because of all the drop sets.. so I would say instead, either cut back your rest periods, or don't do as many drop sets.. just keep in mind that would effect your overall volume so it would effect your overall results.

Hi Scott! It is th sumer shred program.

Oh the 5 Day Bodybuilding split, nice! If you're up to it, you can try doing some supersets.. but like I say.. that will be like doing 6 sets back to back and that's pretty damn intense lol. You might be best to just cut back the rest periods a bit, and/or split the workouts up a bit more so that you train 6 days a week instead of 5. That will make the routines shorter as well.

Thank you Scott! What I have done is to superset on the Small muscles like biceps & triceps and also on the Abs. It is pretty intense as I feel completely depleted after all but I also really feel that it is working great!! Thank you for the advice!
