Hey guys, I've been working out CONSISTENTLY for about 2 years now. But there is one problem. Although I have been consistent, my nutrition hasn't been great. What I mean by that is I never went into a "bulking" phase I always ate in a caloric defecit. Obviously, after my newbie gains I hit a big plateau but continued eating in a defecit because I was afraid of getting fat. Now I have finally started a clean bulking phase, eating around 3,200 cals on my training days. I've been doing this for a little over a month. I don't see any progress nor do I feel that much stronger. Did I just waste these first few years or will I finally start gaining mass now that I'm finally eating in a surplus?

If your not gaining weight 1/4- 1/2 pound a week your not eating enough? Also where is your protein at? Are you 1 gram to 1.5gram of protein of body weight? As for newbie gains if your body has not propely trained right then it hasen't used up any newbie gains. You should be good! im not a hard gainer but depending at work i eat min 2900 cal- 4000 cal just to gain a 1/4 pound. Sounds like your metoblism is cooking. Add 200-300 more calories for a week and see what happens.

OH also how is your work out? Are you truly trying to push yourself one more rep then last week, 5 more pound then last week, lest rest then last week. If your not doing that you wont change in strength.

Thanks for the reply! To answer your question about my protein, I eat 1.5 grams per pound of body weight. As for training I do a P/P/L split and I do try to apply progessipro overload by adding another rep or a forced rep or adding 5 pounds if I'm lucky. Hopefully I didn't waste a shit load of gains by not truly eating in my first 2 years almost.

It sounds like your not eating enough. Like you said you were afraid to gain weight (fat) You will gain fat but most should be muscle if your doing it right. Looks like you are you just need the fuel aka calories to build while sleeping. I kid you not there are times i stuff myself and feel all bloated like I feel like Im getting fat but I track my calories and i always average out 1/4 -1/2 pound a week. Thats what you want. Trust in your number that you have. But first we need to find it. Just add 200-300 more and see how you pan out this next 7 days. Write it down your weight for 7 days and taket he average. Do that each week you can see your 7 day average every week

Use the meal planner to make sure you are getting enough calories and macros, sleep a lot and drink lots of water.

Hey Cocoh,

If you're eating in a calorie surplus yet are not experiencing optimal gains in the gym, there can only be two possibilities.

1) You aren't in a surplus/sleeping enough

2) The programming is off

I would strongly suspect that the system itself is what's causing the problems (option #2). After newbie gains cease, programming must be designed in a much better way. Try one of these programs and the issues should clear up automatically. Hope this helps!
