After a Dr. visit at age 43, I was on the verge of Blood Pressure and cholesterol meds at 272 lbs. and inactive. I had knee surgery due to the weight and was having some trouble with it again. My dad had heart disease and had suffered 3 heart attacks. I knew I was headed for the same. That's when I made up my mind I was going to lose 100 lbs. I started by changing my food intake: nothing fried, processed, or sugar filled. I established small goals and worked for each one of those. I told everyone I knew about my plan as to keep me accountable. After about 3 months I added exercise. I had another knee surgery 20 lbs from my goal. Through that, I gained 13 lbs. and hired a personal trainer to help me with safe exercise. I met my goal of losing 100 lbs. on Oct. 3, 2013! In December, 2013 I became a ACSM Certified Personal Trainer. On June 13, 2014, I opened my own gym. My life has totally changed from what it was! I have been a teacher for 9 years and plan to go full time into fitness after this school year. It has been the best journey I've ever embarked upon and wouldn't go back for anything!
